NEW EDIT: Well the geisha portrait you saw before this piece was really an unfin version done purely for college. I infact had another plan for this piece back a long time ago to enter this piece into the next Exotique book which is now the 4th issue. So over a while i been finishing it off add more details and crisping the image up overall. Im pretty pleased with it. i just hope the judges like it and i get into the book. Wish me luck :)

EDIT: I added a new watermark so its easier to view the art. I hope you all can enjoy the art better now :)

This piece was created for one of my graphic design college course projects which was to create a games cover design and the name of the game was Underworld.
This piece was created using mixed media. I used both traditional and digital medias which were Photoshop and pencils ranging from 8B to 5H.
I wanted to use to base this project around Mythology therefore I came up with the idea basing my image on the Blue Wife. A Japanese Youkai or demon. She is known to dress up like an old court woman with a deformed blue face however I have developed this so that she is a Geisha or Maiko girl. I wanted a strong contrast between beauty and obscure that is why I used a Geisha girl.
Also in this piece I wanted to give a very dreamy like look which is why I used a almost blurry/ pastel look to the whole image.
I hope you like it and I would love some critique to help me obtain the distinction I am after.
Thank you for your time.

This is piece is beautiful!! I think you out did yourself...one thing though...it pops out all the way up to the hair where it just flattens....to get a better realist effort add highlights even if the photo doesn't have them...photos flating the image so you have to emprovize when it comes to some of the features if you want ture realism.

Old mother hupboard went to the cupboard to fetch her poor dog a bone.
Went she bent over, Rover took over and gave her a bone of his own.
I think that is one of the best artwork I've ever seen!!! Her face is absolutely amazing!!!!

Through the darkness, to the end of the world, I think of you.
On the reverse side of my eyelids, why is it the one who is always running away – you?

I just woke up. So I don't have the brain to give you a real comment. But omg this is fantastic. The WIPs were all fantastic, too.
In trying to think of any critique, it occurred to me geisha (and maiko) don't paint the whole bottom lip.

"White makeup causes all sorts of curious illusions; if a geisha were to paint the entire surface of her lips, her mouth would end up looking like two big slices of tuna."

Then I remembered it's more fashionable now to paint the entire mouth. At one time it was the fashion to only paint the bottom lip. I guess it's always changing. Anyway, that's where artistic license comes in. You can't really get anything wrong.
this is extremely awesome indeed
